CHARLESTON — A man was pronounced dead after being pulled from the waters of Lake Charleston late Thursday morning by the Lincoln Fire Protection District dive team.
Deputy Chief Joel Shute of the Charleston Police Department said emergency response agencies received a call at approximately 11 a.m. regarding a man in the lake.
Shute said after the dive team retrieved the man, aCharleston Fire Department's ambulance crew took him to Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Personnel from the Coles County Sheriff's Office also were dispatched to the scene.

"We were able to obtain enough information to determine it was not a criminal matter or investigation, so the police agency units remained to assist medical first responders," Shute said. An inquiry into the incident is underway.
